I’ve been sorting through some things lately and came across some polaroid pictures in a box. There are a few, not a great many, but they are mostly of Wendy and I. We were wondering who had a polaroid camera at our wedding? My brilliant sister Cath with an eye, remembered that Uncle Ray had a polaroid that day. If they came from him I don’t remember.
But here we are.

February 3, 1979 was a lovely day – quite warm and sunny. A short day or two of reprieve from winter before it returned with some ferocity on February 4th! And no we had not flown to some warm locale to enjoy sunshine and luxury. I think I had $120 in the bank – Wendy had more but she’s a saver. I had just had my 22nd birthday and weighed a whopping 133 lbs.
At any rate, the pictures reminded me of the day and once again I marvelled that we have just had our 46th wedding anniversary!
We went to many weddings in those years as many of our friends were getting married. Some spent huge sums on their weddings, others were more subdued. Some were hillarious events with funny things happening or being revealed, others were more subdued. But in the end we all got married and most have stayed together. One of our friends whose marriage was a disaster confessed that she did not really know who she had married. He cheated on her and almost bankrupt them. A sad outcome in a short time.
A great deal of life is like that. We think we know what we are getting into, we think we’re informed, but in the end we discover that we don’t know what we don’t know.

We were in Bermuda in 2022 and I wrote this in the sand when we went to the beach. Being part of each other’s life is the major part of our lives. We won’t be with each other forever – well not in this life, in this world. And Jesus was pretty clear that marriage, as we think about it, does not exist in eternity, but we do have every indication that we will know each other and have our shared memories if not great insight into ourselves and each other.
These are the thoughts that come from just finding an old photo.
