Th weather is changing, there’s a chill in the air and the grandkids have decided on what their halloween costumes will be. They are very excited.
The leaves are changing and falling to the ground. We have a choke cherry tree out the front of the house and it has very dark leaves. Those dark leaves on the grass look wonderful. They don’t seem to get crunchy… but there are lots of crunchy leaves around.

Carlyle and I like to go for a walk through the woodlot near us. It has lots of crunchy leaves right now. Last week we were walking and came across this bird.

This was the largest woodpecker I have ever seen. Now, this is not one of those stories of the big fish that got away.
Larger than a raven or our predatory magpie. I don’t want to be accused of exaggerating but I was sure surprised at its size. And he let us get quite close to him. The pictures aren’t great, I tried to grab my phone and a photo as he was jumping arond.

Autumn days are just really lovely days and I love walking in the trees during these short days before the really cold weather arrives.
And in closing a photo of our table ready for the autumn and for family – more chairs than just the two of us need. That is a great thought.

Autumn colors are nature’s crayon box. š
