If you are a fan of Netflix you may have seen The Crown. We’ve enjoyed this glimpse into history recognizing that the television telling may not be entirely accurate. That being said one of the episodes we’ve enjoyed was the very sad story of Alberfan, a Welsh town that was hit by a tragic slide of coal that destroyed a school killing may children.
The Salvation Army was involved in this tragedy as there was a corps there. You can read about it here.
The Crown focuses on the failure of the Queen to respond to the grief of the families. I think it would have been a better story to show a bit more about the town’s story and working to retrieve the bodies of the children.
