The International Staff Band of The Salvation Army (from the UK) visited Canada in 1952. They toured right across the country. The SA in the UK has just released this video taken from old film footage.
When we were in Calgary I found some B&W photos of their stop in Calgary and Banff and spotted in those pictures a young Captain Will Pratt playing cornet. He would many years later return to be the Territorial Commander of the Canada and Bermuda Territory.
See who you can identify in the footage – it’s 23 minutes, 16 seconds in length. At the 16:06 mark you’ll see the band at the Banff Springs Hotel looking out over the valley! At 18:39 they are at the Mount Pleasant Cemetary for the annual remembrance of those lost in the sinking of the Empress of Ireland.
