Thirty-two years ago the sun was shining, it was about 18 degrees C and the snow was melting. I drove up to the hotel where our reception was being held and dropped off a few things including the wedding cake! I was terrified I would end up in a car acccident and the cake would be destroyed. I didn’t. Later in the day we were married at Mississauga Temple…and eventually ate the cake.
I was re-reading some of my previous posts from previous February 3rds …. and to say what I’ve posted numerous times “I can’t believe how quickly the days seem to pass”. I was taken by my post from our 30th anniversary, though if you seach “anniversary” in the search box for this blog you’ll see I’ve never let this day pass without being reminded how blessed we are in our marriage.
Some years we arrive on this day with smiles and hugs and joy in our hearts, other years have seen a more sombre celebration as “life” presents us with reasons to hold close to each other as we face challenges of one kind or another.
That being said I confess to be being the most fortunate of men, married happily to a classy lady. If I had to chose again I would still chose her.
I don’t do many weddings any more which I regret for when I did, I would be reminded of my own wedding vows as I took a young couple full of love and excitement facing the future with some trepidation through these words: “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, forsaking all others”.
We are still commited to each other and those promises. And in a world where promises are lightly made and often not kept this still remains highly important for us.
So Happy Anniversary Wendy. I love you. As we’ve said numerous times “we simply want to grow old together”. Looks like I’m growing older a slightly faster rate!
