YEG to YYZ

I have become very found of working on boards and committees that address significant work. Some committee work would be better done by a series of emails because the gathering is more about informing than discussing. Some committee work is so soaked in conflict avoidance that no good improvements or enhancements will ever be achieved.

My experience over the past few years on the IT Committee which has given governance to the A25 project. has been a wonderful experience. So I was happy to attend my final meeting of this committee in Toronto.

As you can see, Nugget was hoping to come with me jumping into my suitcase! He is a well behaved dog but I had to leave him at home. (One day we hope he’ll get to fly with us somewhere).

THQ is now surrounded by construction! What a site to see the other buildings gone. Behind us had been the back up to the back up for the 911 system. That’s gone. Beside us was March of Dimes – gone! There is a huge train yard being put in to accommodate the rail cars for the Ontario line of the LRT – it will be massive.

I was delighted to see that the Scripture I had put up in the foyer of THQ was still there. There is another on the other side of the bulk head too. I had been struck how much self promotion was on our walls, like we were some marketing firm, and little indication that we are a Christian place of work and business.

After a 5 hour committee meeting we were treated to dinner and some great conversations!

And then it was back to the airport Tuesday morning having arrived at my hotel in Toronto just after 7 pm on Sunday night. It was a quick trip and arriving home I thought of Dorothy’s famous saying – there’s no place like home!
