You’ve heard the saying, slow down and smell the coffee. Well, what about slow down and smell the mountains? We drove through the mountains on Tuesday after a partial day around Calgary. Leaving Calgary and heading towards Canmore, the road is mostly “boring”….okay, you can sense that you aren’t in the mountains.
As you come over the crest of the hill just past Scott Lake Road, there towers in front of you the first of the mountain ranges. From there on in, it is majestic! Snow-capped mountains, rushing rivers, great swathes of coniferous trees and valleys that sweep across to the next range. It’s impossible to capture in a picture.

We took our time and made a few stops along the way. We even drove a bit slower. Why rush, why miss all of God’s beauty letting the flashing white lines to take our attention? And the amazing thing is, when you get out of the car, you can smell the trees – immediately! What an aroma.
I thought it seemed a shame to rush through these magnificent mountains and not take the opportunity to slow down, pull over, take a deep breath and see the splendour of God’s creation.
Nugget was a terrific traveller and he took the opportunity to smell the mountians!
