He IS Risen

I grew up with the Sunday morning refrain when greeting each other – ” He is rise”, response: “He is risen indeed”.

And today is the day we mark the resurrection of Christ. This is why The Church has met on Sunday (the first day of the week) and not the Hebrew tradition of Sabbath. We celebrate every week the resurrection of Jesus – a thought sometimes lost in the weekly rythmn and assumptions about what Sunday is meant to be. We ARE people of the Resurrection! Let that ring out in your thoughts and words this week!

Death is not the end. Death does not get the last word. Did you see the video on the raising of Lazarus? Now to be theologically accurate. Lazarus did die again – and one day he will be perhaps one of only a few to be resurrected a second time! Oh, won’t that be a wonderful day for him and us for we too, if our faith is in Jesus, will also be raised to LIFE.

This is too grand a thought, to vast an idea for me to completely grasp. How? I don’t entirely know but Jesus talked about it, and the Apostle Paul wrote about it! In fact one of the earlies writings of the New Testament is Thessalonians and it majors on the return of Christ, the resurrection of the saints and the reunion of the saints. The early church had a saying – Maranatha – Lord come quickly.

One day we will fly to Jesus!

He is risen indeed soon I’m off to church to celebrate the resurrection of the One who died and rose again and it’s a glorious morning here
