More than you might imagine

One of my very favourite movies is Dead Poets Society.  A challenging, often disturbing story with Robin Williams, it tells the story of a teacher trying to inspire his students in the face of an institution that seems to be bent on forcing each of the boys to be molded into one mold.  The boys, inspired by their teacher’s robust methods begin to see within themselves something more than they had imagined.

It reminds me of this great verse from the Bible.  Paul sees in those he is writing the promise of God – and encourages them to believe that God is doing a great thing in them.  The work of God is not always evident immediately but time shows how God is indeed changing us.

“Now to him who is able<span class="crossreference" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="(A)”> to do immeasurably more than all we ask<span class="crossreference" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="(B)”> or imagine, according to his power<span class="crossreference" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="(C)”> that is at work within us…” – Ephesians 3:20
