Predictions for 2014

I’ve enjoyed taking time to lay down some thoughts about what will or at least may happen in the coming year and by the looks of the traffic to last year’s posting it seems I should probably give you my insights into the coming year.

So here they are:

  • let’s start again this year with the Royal family…in 2014 Prince Harry will announce his engagement
  • in matters closer to home the Senate scandal will continue to haunt the government and details of wrong doing will surface within parliament itself
  • Mayor Rob Ford will continue to struggle and will indeed run for office but be unsuccessful in his bid to mayor for another term
  • in economics our dollar will continue to slide from it’s current home of about 94 cents (against the USD) and will spend most of 2014 near 90 cents.
  • two babies – twins will arrive in March – around the 19th – to Jason and Susan….no predictions on names though that wouldn’t be cool….
  • Wendy and I will make two trips to Alberta and two trips to Newfoundland in the coming year
  • Amanda will graduate with her Masters degree and we will all celebrate with her!
  • The Toronto Maple Leafs will not win the Stanley Cup (again) but will make a good run in the playoffs
  • We will enjoy three weeks of sun and relaxation at the trailer spending much time relaxing on Lake Simcoe

So that’\s my predictions for the coming year.  Here’s the link to posts from previous years that relate to predictions for the coming year.

Predictions for 2013

Last December, on the 31st I wrote a review of 2011 and that post entitled 2011 in Review ended with this:
Finally…my predictions for 2012
  • Prince William and Lady Kate will announce that she’s pregnant…
  • The Federal NDP will pick a leader who will live to regret ever wanting to step into Jack Layton’s shoes
  • President Obama will win a second term with a new theme…No we can’t!
  • Canada will see a renewed interest in maple syrup exports
  • The price of gas will continue to go up as our dollar weakens…watch for a 90 cent loonie!
  • Fred & Wendy will visit Alberta to see Philip and Amanda!
So as you can see, I did get three right, maybe four depending on how you think Tom Mulcair feels about where he’s ended up.  I was way off on the 90 cent Loonie as of today it still sits above par.  However with a strengthening US economy and our’s a weakening economy perhaps my predictions for the next year will be better.
So wondering what my 2013 predicitons are?  Have I got you on the edge of your seat?  Is your pen and paper ready?
Here goes.

My predictions for 2013
  • Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge will give have a baby girl and name her Diana
  • The price of gasoline will rebound and by mid August be at $100 + for a barrel of oil…though I still haven’t gotten into the habit of buying my oil in bulk
  • Wendy and I will have a Florida holiday
  • The NHL will have no labour disputes in the 2013-14 season but attendance will be down by 20%
  • The Provincial government of Ontario will continue to escalate into maddness and an election will be held
  • Mayor Rob Ford will be re-elected in a by-election but will soon after be ticketed by the police for texting and driving
  • RIM will find itself in a good year but Microsoft will have a very, very good year
  • and finally….my predictions call for me to be in my present appointment this time next year!

2011 in review

As the year closes out for us, and we look back on a year of change and transition here are some of my thoughts concerning 2012.  Perhaps they resonate with you.

1. 2012 is a clean slate – what I do will matter – not what I intended to do.
2. Reading is one of the best things you can do to stimuate the mind – watching TV is not!
3. Travel is the new drug of choice AND it’s a healthy choice so being away from home should be part of our plans for the coming year.  I will be visiting parts of Canada, the UK and various trips to the USA…if I could finance it I would probably return to Hawaii !!
4. Relationships, relationships, relationships.  We’re a very insular society and the most common phrase I hear is “I have no friends”…what they mean is, they have few or no people they feel really care for them.  Well relationships being two way streets who do you, who do I, need to invest in?
5. According to myth, legend and Hollywood this is the year that the world ends.  They could be right – Jesus did say no one knows except God the Father, when He will return.  Which will end the world we know and usher in a “new heaven and a new earth”…according to the prophecy of John.  That being said, we’ve had more than a few friends diagnosed with cancer lately and it has reminded us whether Christ returns or we fall ill our lives on this planet have only so many days attached to them.  Use them wisely!  Be ready…as Nickleback would say..”if today was your last day”.
6. Gratitude – wonder – joy – love – amazement – delight….how many adjectives could I attach to being a grandparent?  This has definitely been a highlight for 2011 and I’m grateful to God for our relocation to Ontario to be near her!  Who would have known?!  Thank you Heavenly Father!
7. Community…a different concept than relationships though closely related.  We’ve been feeling disconnected by lack of community so we’ve been trying to determine which worshipping community.  We’ve visited many large and small – some thriving, some struggling.  Where we’ve decided to land will make some of our friends happy, some not.  But this being a chance to do something a bit different, and desiring to be close as possible to our home church, and wanting to be somewhere that resonates with our own sense of mission we’ve chosen…well perhaps we should tell the CO first before declaring it here.

Happy New Year friends!
