Health updates

Updates, not update. In our household of three, there have been two health challenges of late. First of all, for those asking, Wendy continues to improve. Her arm is now out of the cast, but her hand is still sore and bruised. But we’re making progress, and she’s happy about it all. She will likely be three more weeks to being able to use it properly.

Saturday was Nugget’s turn. He wouldn’t eat or drink, lay about lethargically, and was in some pain. He grabbed my hand with his teeth when I went to touch him initially, not hurting me but letting me know he did NOT want to be touched. OK…

By Sunday, he had not changed and still had not eaten or had any fluids. I had tried to get some water into him, but he resisted that to his satisfaction. So off the emergency vet clinic…

He was treated there like a king. They loved him – the vet told me he had the “cutest face” and all the staff loved having him around. Yes, he’s adorable. But I like healthy and adorable.

We sat in the waiting room for a long time.

He never complained.

It was very busy and he got to meet several other dogs who were there to see the vet. One man brought in a 10-year-old Great Dane/Bull Mastiff crossbreed who suffers from diabetes. He was a huge dog. Nugget just watched him walk by. There were several small dogs – Nugget liked them. Several dogs with eye problems – one Pug had a damaged cornea. I know what he feels like.

Nugget got an X-ray and an ultrasound, some pain meds, and anti-nausea medicine. We were given the instruction to feed him cooked chicken – boiled not fried – and without any skin. Just white meat. Monday, we started him on that… Now he is asking us to take him to Chick-fil-A!

He is now eating, drinking, playing, sleeping well, asking to be picked up and enjoying being outside again. What was it that caused this? No one seemed to know but we’re glad he’s feeling so much better.
