I was recently approached by a man in our congregation who inquired about the possibility of my discipling him. This gentleman has been on the road of faith for a long time, though he came to faith as an adult. I’m not always certain what people think of when they ask this, so we had a bite to eat this week and I brought some questions – who are you? – what do you think? – what do you feel? – what do you want? And we put those in the context of his faith journey.
It is interesting when you meet someone who really does have a hunger for more of Jesus!
I guess that’s why Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled (satisfied).
It got me thinking about my own faith journey. Early on I had such a drive to pray, to read my Bible and to share my faith. As time progessed I have had times where I was distracted from those things and times where a renewed interest drove me back to the well.
Yes, blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for Jesus, for God. Learning to lean on God is a journey. We may never arrive. But we do have a promise seen in the life of Jesus. After his death, we read of His resurrection. I think this may be the place of arriving, of being all we should be when God raises us from the dead, and we are wholly His, living in His presence, part of the re-creation.
