Warm and sunny in Alberta

Today’s adventure took us south of Edmonton, back into rural Alberta again. This part of Alberta west of Red Deer is really beautiful. More trees, some lakes, many more trees and some great properties.

We drove through Caroline- where Philip did some time in his training to be a paramedic and it appeared there was a new location for EMS, though the towers were still where they were. I didn’t take any pictures, regrettably, but I saw some long horn steers, south of Caroline. What beast those things are.

Our first stop was in Red Deer for Wendy to go to the Urban Farmhouse – Wendy really likes this shop and the fullness and variety of their inventory. Nugget and I went for a walk by the river nearby along a great trail!

Then we were off to the next quilt shop set in a very rural setting – and we drove up their driveway!

This was the shop south of Sylvian Lake and it was really nicely stocked with some good prices. The farm dog came along to greet us and was somewhat interested in Nugget until he had had enough of the puppy energy! A little girl came along holding a kitten that was half the size of Nugget when we picked him up at the breeder! “Do you want to hold my kitten”?” she asked… As cute as the kitten was, I turned down the offer. She didn’t seem to understand my reluctance.

This place, like many sites in rural Canada keep some rural items around – including this old tub clothes washer and an outhouse! And yes, some barbwire.

From here we headed out on the dusty gravel roads…to our next stop.

We’ve been to this shop before but I had not been inside – I had taken Nugget for a walk and had taken a couple of pictures of an old Ford Model T pickup truck. But this time I got a good picture of their front lawn at the house. How would you like that statue on your front lawn?

Then we headed home – stopping once when Nugget told us he had to get out to go …. Well, you know what he wanted to do. He’s been really good at letting us know when he needs out – even in the car racing down the highway.

And then we were home. Home sweet home. There’s no place like home!
