We visited Rosalind AB last week. Bet you’ve never heard of that town. Why you say? Well, we are camping not far away and we are curious. We’ve found some great treasures in the little places we’ve visited in the past. Rosalind has a population of around 120. But it has an active website, a town office, a great sports field, and a pretty good calendar of events.

The town seems to be doing well, and there were many very lovely properties on display. This small house caught our eye because, it looks like an old school. Indeed it was. You can see on the plaque mounted on the stone to the left of the house that it was once the Melville School house.

There is no Melville on the map – but there is a Melville Cemetery, which is 11 km away, closer to Camrose. I assume that at some point the school was replaced or no longer needed and it was brought here for a small congregation, which eventually sold it. A story too often told.
I think I am pleased it is still here and recognized, but sad that the congregation is gone. The nearest Lutheran Church by this name is in Red Deer, AB.
I am not sure why I didn’t take more picture of the little town on the prairie, but their website is here.
