How does your garden grow?

I learned my lesson last year – do not plant too early! So I am awaiting a later date, but I did buy some seeds.

Three types of tomatoes this season, rather than the seven types I used last year. I really liked the hybrid Arctic version developed for Alberta. It gives you a mid-size tomato that is quite nice in taste and texture. Wendy likes the small tomatoes so I got a multi-coloured version of the cherry tomato. And lastly for my tomato sandwiches etc, the big brandywise – not really brandy, don’t worry about that but a nice beefy tomato.

This year I will likely spend more time growing flowers in the house. Last year I really liked growing Malvas but my shasta daisies didn’t make the transition outside well at all. Weird. This year I have picked up some different seeds that I am not so familiar with.

I have had poppies before but these look entirely different. Still bowl-shaped, they stand about 2 to 3 feet tall. The second one – a perennial – is the butterfly weed. It doesn’t mind drier soils so that is us for sure. It’s quite bushy and stands just under 2 feet tall. I am hoping to sow this one along the side of the house!

Coreopsis is a prairie plant and loves full sun. It looks like it will be another great plant for the side of our house. And again it is a perennial.

Now, who will be coming to see my garden!
