So that’s what retirement looks like? A friend recently asked me what I am doing in retirement. Then they added the comment. What is retirement anyway?
After some thought, I have come to this conclusion.
Retirement is not sitting around doing nothing, or just wearing slippers and drinking (in my case) coffee. It is not sleeping in and taking walks around the block. Retirement is not looking back at what you did, nor listing your regrets or grievances. It isn’t even just playing with the grandchildren.
I think it is, making different choices. It is enjoying SOME of the financial benefit of years of work and paying into pensions or RRSP’s. It is maybe doing a different kind of work.
And for me, yes it is busy. I’m enjoying my work, I am enjoying who I work with, and I am enjoying having some extra money to do a bit of travel, or buy a treat for us, or putting away a few extra shekels.
I had a call this week asking if I will chair one of the committees attached to CIVIDA…and I probably will, if I think I can serve this way and enjoy another type of activity.
After all, the golf season is over now, not that I played much!
We recently drove down to Red Deer and led the services there for the officers who are away – again, doing something of meaning – I think maybe that’s retirement.
