In the days when we had so very little money, and we were looking for inexpensive or affordable vacations, we were fortunate enough to have some financial help from Grandma Kitney which let us buy our first trailer – an eight foot box, no hot water, no heater, ten trailer. It wasn’t fancy but it was ours and we set out to make the very most of our vacation time.
One of my favourite places to go was Skycroft – north of Kingston it sat on a clean lake spreading a very few campsites over 50 acres. The place was quite! It is well treed and we had a great deal of privacy. I just loved this place…though the mosquitoes could be a challenge in the trees it offered a break away from the traditional “pack them in” campgrounds.
Over this past weekend Carlyle pulled out one of our games and she found a leaflet from Skycroft that we had used to keep score – and there were the prices from 1998.

I didn’t go and look at the current prices but camping in general is becoming a pricey affair! I can see why so many people are equipping their gear with solar panels and other pieces of technology to allow them to be “off grid”.
This summer we’re hoping to maybe have a week out in “the trailer”…if Philip and Amanda can set us up?!! (hint, hint). Once a relatively cheap vacation I’m astonished at the prices which are getting closer and closer to a night in a 3 star hotel.

Just to finish this note… here’s my fishing partner Philip. This is at Skycroft and we had a good haul I thought. Phil loved fishing and being in the boat – me too!! Making memories is a vital part of family I think.
