The island of Bermuda

Wendy and I have been to Bermuda a number of times. It is a privilege to go there and see the wonderful people, the way in which this small island works and to enjoy the beauty of this dot in the Atlantic Ocean.

It is not, as some seem to think, in the Caribbean. It is off the coast of South Carolina, almost directly out from Myrtle Beach some 650 miles.

Flowers, palm trees, pink sand, sunshine, and the annual threat of hurricanes!

The buildings are colourful and the roofs white. This is where the drinking water is collected. So the roofs need to be as clean as possible and they are tiered to allow the water to be collected more easily. As you look out on the housing the buildings glow in the strong sunlight.

Lots of these crabs along the shoreline when I went for a walk – and I did wonder what they tasted like? I think over some hot coals they would roast up nicely.

The roads are narrow and often have walls along the edge or certainly a narrow sidewalk. This is a volcanic island, though it has not been active since long before it was inhabited. The water colours are beautiful and change depending on the sand and the depth of the water.

I have lots and lots of pictures of the west end the city of Hamilton and the harbour as well as St. George’s and the Dockyards where the cruise ships come in.
