I have an interest in old cars and would love to own one. Whether it is an old MG or a VW…that’s something I am still interested in. The British Motors dealers are gone now, but they were around when I was in my late teens and early 20’s.
Recently my Mom told me that she had pulled out an old receipt and it was for the car her Dad bought them when they were first married. How lovely was that?! He was a generous man and did many things to help them and others.
The car he bought them was a 1955 Hillman – Deluxe.

This photo is one from the UK – you see the right-hand drive.

You can see that he bought the deluxe version and added the radio and antenna as well as one fender mirror and the windshield washer. Total price, $1,985.85 for this great vehicle. In case you were wondering $100 1955 dollars are now worth $1146, so this car based on the price of 1955 would now cost $22,787. A car costing that much now would at least come with bluetooth.
If you look up the Niagara Falls address you’ll find that it is currently a vacant lot.

Hillman had several owners. Hillman-Coatalen Motor Car Company (1907–31) Humber (1929–31) Rootes Group (1931–67) Chrysler Europe (1967–76). Hillman was seen as an economic car compared to American-made models.

I found this old photo – one of my Dad’s slides and I think that’s the car on the left! Is it? Mom?

Yes Fred that photo was taken when we were stationed in Alberta and because you were a baby I was at home but dad was asked to get a group together for a special purpose thus the picture of Officers in the Alberta Division
