When and how much to tip for service? I have traditionally been pretty sympathetic to those who work in the industry, but lately with escalating prices on everything, reduced service, and, at least in Edmonton, being required to bring my own takeout bag, well I’m thinking that I am only going to tip for real service.

If I go into a restaurant or any other establishment, and someone serves me, that actually helps me then I am quite happy to provide a tip.

But if I’m going to go to a screen to order what I want, or I have to “check myself out”…well then I think the tip goes to me. Depending on how I did.
