Retired and relaxed

Our time in BC certainly didn’t go as planned.

We had expected to share a week with Rick and Alison at the kind invitation and generous sharing of their lives and home. But from the beginning it was smokey and overcast with a partially hidden sun – though it was warm it was evident the nearby forest fire was impacting our area. As the week progressed things grew more ominous with ash covering most things each morning when we awoke. But Friday Kelowna was on fire south of us and the nearby forest fire was advancing slowly but in our direction.

On Saturday at 4 am Rick appeared and suggested it might be timely for us to head home – we were driving out in the dark 20 minutes later.

the afternoon sky turned orange by all the smoke

We had a prayer before leaving and asked the Lord to keep them and their property safe. And so far they have been.

Rick and I did get one night of fishing out on the lake and we caught 4 good-sized rainbow trout each! That’s 8 fish in about 90 minutes – it was crazy! The fish were biting!

I had my new camera out and got some good shots. Alison tends her garden religiously and Rick pumps water out of the lake to keep the beds well watered.

The way this rural neighbourhood works, or at least how Rick and Alison work in it is quite fascinating. We had an evening where two friends came over, we watched an episode of The Chosen, shared a meal, and talked about what we saw and heard. So interesting!

The two dogs are so much fun and such lovely animals. They are high-spirited and love to run even though you have to wonder how they do it with such short legs. Their faces are very expressive and I had many a laugh just watching them. Here Ebenezer gives me “that look”… he is the younger one and loves to cuddle up with you.

They loved to come down to see us and get a treat!

The morning we left, we did so early and so we were in Canmore for lunch. Driving into the two parks – Yoho and Banff it was very cool – just 4 degrees C. Brrr…. but by the time we stopped for lunch the sun was out and it was very comfortable.
