Back to Hamilton MO

on

Last year when we drove to Hamilton, MO, also known as Quilt City, Wendy was pretty thrilled that she had a chance to visit the home of the Missouri Star Quilt Company in this small town. I’ve written about the history of this company now celebrating 15 years, but if you missed it, here’s the link. We had the chance and took it to return on our trip across the USA as we drove back home.

When we were in Hamilton MO I was talking to one of the employees in the old JC Penny store that has been refitted for the Missouri Star Co. and she indicated that once Hamilton had a Stride Rite Shoe factory. It turns out that it was built as a supplement to their other factory in the area. When the factory left the town slowly began to shrink and the buildings to deteriorate. Then along came the Doan family and this little town became alive again. There were three more buildings being updated and retrofitted during our visit.

While we were visiting, in fact shortly after our arrival, I spotted Misty (of MSQC) and engaged her in a quick conversation.

Now, we’ve been talking to Stan and Debbie about meeting us here next summer. Debi has wanted to visit this little town! So as I chatted with Misty, who was super gracious and kind, I asked her if she would do a quick video for us to send to Stan and Debi!

This was a great deal of fun and we were grateful for her desire to have some fun with us!

We hope to return and yes, it’s a long drive, but we would love to spend some time with good friends in the area. And we had a great visit again this year!
