Where’s your confidence?

I phoned a friend the other day to get some information.  He was in a particular city and I knew he could give me some needed history – he did and I was grateful.  I hadn’t spoken to him in some time and so it was also nice to catch up.

Actually he asked more questions about our kids than I got a chance to ask about his family.  He had a strong interest in Philip in those days and Philip was around 10 or 11 years of age.  I gave him an update and he gave me this quote to pass on: “Let faith guide your steps – reason was never a mountain climber”.

Walking by faith is the encouragement of Scripture.  Faith is defined:  “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

The key word for me is confidence.  Confidence implies that I have no lack of trust, that I believe I can fully embrace a truth not wondering if it is 60% or 70% true!  It means that I can speak to others with conviction and knowing that the truth is …well, the truth.

So yes here is what I have confidence in:

  • that Jesus is the Son of God
  • that Jesus died and was resurrected as God had planned
  • that God’s great plan is to provide us with purpose in living  AND
  • that God has provided forgiveness for all our sins
  • that God offers us peace for the asking
  • that my life can be spent is something bigger – more fulfilling than I could ever orchestrate
  • that the joy found in God’s love is greater than just happiness
  • that the future for those who believe, who trust in God and who desire can be in heaven

So that’s some of what I have confidence in.

How about you?  What are you confident about?
