Like any city that sits near a major geographical feature, (ie. ocean, moutains, large lakes) Calgary has some unique weather patterns. As Ottawa Valley suffers from freezing rain, Calgary suffers from significant hail storms.
These photos from July 2004 show the results of one of those storms. This only effected part of the SW of Calgary.The fellow in the Land Rover (to the left) had paused in front of me, with window down, and looked at the hail – I had called out “I think you’ll get stuck”…and then he drove into the hail and got stuck. Below you can see Wendy by the van…I stayed out of the hail.
