What counts?

Statistics tell some interesting stories. In my role leading the business function for The Salvation Army I would often see some contradiction between what we said was important and how we spent money. This is the struggle of every organization, keeping the main thing the main thing. Individuals within the organization can get lost in a restricted or reduced view which strays from what they should see as a priority.

TSA tends to spend inordinate amounts of money on music, which is tied to our heritage, while far less gets spent on discipleship which most would agree needs to be the priority. Can you do both? Yes, but do we? Not often enough.

I was interested lately to get back to what I was going to write about, that visitors to my blog come from the USA twice as often as from Canada. Strange, eh? I suppose one might argue that with 10 times the population, it would be expected. I was just surprised. Maybe Homeland Security is keeping an eye on me. We did attempt once to take frozen chicken across the border in our trailer. It was ceased. A frozen chicken breast of mass destruction.

So to my American readers. We are sorry you are in the mess you are, but you did elect this guy. Twice. I mean it wasn’t like you didn’t know what you were going to get. And yes, some of you will believe that God sent him, or he’s a great Christian leader, or he’s better than the alternative.

Did you know that 71% of white evangelical Christians vote Republican, regardless, while 80% of black Christians (evangelical is a white term) vote for the Democrats.

Guys, you have to get your act together. Prices are up, your relationships with allies is damaged greatly, your administration is filled with incompetent leaders, your economy is rewarding the ultra wealthy….come on. You know better than this.

I recently posted an article on Facebook that highlighted the discipline of Barack Obama when he was in the White House. I asked what disciplines or activities of leaders did those who read the post admire. I got one comment about how wonderful Obama was. (and is…)

It seems that characteristics to be admired in leaders cannot be acknowledged when they are in the “enemy camp”. That’s what I took away.

Canada has just had some really bad job numbers, and our economy is suffering because of the inability of the USA President, a man convicted on several counts, to be in partnership with others.
