The airwaves are full of sound. The sound of politics, the sound of being aghast. The sound of us vs them and the sound of Canada responding to an American President who foolishly decided to upset an economic engine of his own country, pitting nation against nation.
To no one’s surprise, the opposition hates the budget. The dogs are out of the cage, and they are stunned at a government that would spend so liberally. And if the shoe were on the other foot, would it be any different? Maybe that’s what keeps Canadians skeptical about politics and politicians. Has there ever been a good idea put forward by a government in which the opposition said, “Now that’s a good idea, we support it”. I do not recall such a thing.
And yes I know that’s the role of the opposition, but once in a while, you would think that someone could say something positive and not simply drive the pile of dissent deeper.
At any rate I am happy with what I see, what I hear. I have a trust in the current PM far greater than the previous PM and especially in a time of economic uncertainty.
Maybe one day, when the Not So United States gets its act together, we will be able to breathe easier, but I think we’ve learned a lesson that we cannot be complacent.
