What do you feed your dog?

Our breeder was very conscious about what food she was giving the puppies. She suggested we buy what she had been feeding Nugget before we got him. We bought that, and then tried another combination of flavours which we found he liked better – salmon, chicken and pumpkin. He of course gets a small amount each day but we’ve been surprised how much food we’ve gone through already.

Nugget likes to eat grass, dead leaves, flowers, and anything else his little nose finds along the way. So I went looking to see if I could find any authoritative voice on the subject of dogs eating grass. I found an animal hospital in Colorado that had a good article on this. They suggest there are a variety of reasons – couresity, need for fibre, it’s delicious, bordom and looking to settle an upset stomach.

Apart from that, they recommend feeding your dog these things:

  • Blueberries
  • Carrots
  • Apples (without the core or any seeds)
  • Cantaloupe
  • Watermelon
  • Cucumbers
  • Pumpkin
  • Broccoli
  • Celery
  • Peas
  • Green beans
  • Spinach
