You have to wonder

I would laugh if it weren’t so scary. I could write a blog post about what is going on south of us every day because there seems to be something crazy happening every day.

Even as I am putting this together, DJT is signing the EO for 25% tariffs on the auto industry. Why should a Canadian care about any of this? First of all, there is already a trade agreement with Canada that was negotiated under the first Trump administration and signed by Trump. So what has changed? Nothing. This is all in the head of one person and, of course, his entourage, who seem to believe anything he says.

Like – they are eating dogs and cats. Are they still eating dogs and cats? Apparently they can’t afford eggs.

And this week’s debacle of texting a journalist war plans, and yes they could be called attack plans. It is the same thing. But really, the incompetence of this group is just unbelievable. And should we care about that? Yes, for the one of the largest military engines in the world is in the hands of clearly incompetent and sloppy leaders.

West Jet has announced the cancellation, for the time being, of flights out of Edmonton to Orlando as Canadians begin to book to other destinations. All this as America is being made great again.

Biden and Clinton had their own troubles keeping secrets secret. The NY Times gives this explanation as to why:

“There are computer systems designed to discuss war plans and other secrets. They are accessible only in secured rooms, and it’s very difficult for foreign powers to penetrate them. You can’t bring your personal devices into these rooms, which are not connected to the web.

But all that security makes them cumbersome and annoying. In most secured rooms, you can’t toggle between work and social media, the way most of us do. You can’t scroll through a classified feed while watching “The White Lotus.” For all but the top officials, who have Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities, or SCIFs, built at their homes, you have to go into the office to check on “the high side,” the slang for the secret computer networks.

Government officials, including new political appointees like the ones in the Signal chat, are trained on the proper protocols, and it can be a crime to violate them. But it’s hard to toggle between an economic speech in Michigan, which the vice president was giving on the day he weighed in, and the monkish habits needed to interact with restricted material. Biden administration officials sometimes used Signal, too, though more for directing colleagues to SCIFs for updates than for sharing the government secrets that could be found there.” – March 27, 2025 Julian E Barnes

It’s clearly hard enough with good intelligent people to manage this, but the current crowd are in such a hurry to make a big difference that they are making big mistakes.

The best way to get things done I have always understood to be “go slow to go fast”. Why – because going fast means missing important details.

Well, what will today hold? Outside – it’s snow! Come on spring weather!
