I wonder how Americans, and the USA government would react if another country’s leader announced that they were taking part of their territory, or were going to bring economic pressure to bear?
I mean we are used to seeing governments do this to countries, like Russia who invaded Crimea and then Ukraine, or to Iran who had nuclear ambitions. But when the other country is an ally?
Seems weird – and to those of us inside Canada it is troubling. In fact you’re seeing and hearing the emotions that are bubbling up. Well mannered Canadians are booing the USA national anthem, refusing to buy products made in the USA and cancelling travel into the USA. The emphasis within Canada is currently one of supporting our own economy as much as possible.
Friends told us they have cancelled their summer plans to journey across the USA in their motorhome. No gas, no campground fees, no meals, no sightseeing dollars heading south for them. And who can blame them?
I watched the White House briefing lately and heard the White House spokesperson tell a reporter that this economic threat is there because of the illegal immigration from Canada (bahahahaha) and she even said it with a stern voice. Then she went on to warn the PM that he better not retaliate!!! Where did they find her? Oh, wait – was it on Fox?
Okay, this is just getting ridiculous. But too many it is scary.
Remember how we heard that life would be better, that America would be great – again. I mean Trump 1.0 didn’t achieve any greatness, and now Trump 2.0 seems to be reaching to achieve a new level of meanness.
Where are our friends – the ones who asked us to fight with them in wars, to provide them with clean water and inexpensive pharmaceuticals? Where are the people who came to our parliament and told us what great partners we are? Where are the rationale and reasonable Americans?
Right now, we Canadians are feeling like that relationship has been blown up by a couple of very rich people who find pleasure in making the lives on those without power, wealth or influence, as difficult as they can.
Can we really survive four years of this kind of action and rhetoric?
Oh, and to my American readers – good luck in seeing any kind of economic relief. This is going to be hard for us all.

Yes, I remember when Canadians finished the U.S. national anthem for us at a hockey game when the sound system failed. How far we have fallen. I, and most Americans, do not blame you Canada, for your anger. You must take care of your own. We don’t blame you for not spending your money here in the U.S. and refusing to buy American products. Our current gov’t has betrayed you and our other allies, just as it has betrayed the American people. We, rational Americans, are also grieving and mourning all that has been lost, including your friendship. Rational Americans are still here, praying that Canada and our other allies can stay strong and prosper, and that we can meet again as friends on the other side of this madness.
