When I posted this back in November, following the election of President Trump, Sue made a comment about how good this would be for the USA and for the children of that country. As the early days roll out in this Presidency, it appears that we, the neighbours to the north, are not going to be left to just sit and watch. We seem to have moved from friend and ally with the USA to be targeted, not for policy change or political cooperation, but to be economically injured and smeared by partial truth and outright lies.
Our former PM, Stephen Harper had this to say: “Trump’s threats and complaints are not the words of a friend, a partner or an ally.” No kidding. Even yesterday’s White House Press briefing underscored that imposing tariffs on February 1 is still on the table. By the way – it’s January 30th.
Canadians need to face the fact that the chaos of the Trump Presidency is going to spill over the 49th parallel. Oh, and just for the record – it is still the Gulf of Mexico.
Here’s what I am thinking… I think I’m backing any strategy that the federal government has to counter these tariffs. Let’s see what happens, but we need to think about what is important and matters to us.
Americans it would seem have determined to put someone in the White House who is not a friend or ally to Canada. It’s a sad time for North America.
