I stole it

Up front let me confess that I copied this from a post that Rob Kerr made on social media. I stole it. Well, I took it. I will ask him… if I can post this in the end I suppose it won’t be stealing. But at the time it felt like it.

Why you ask did I take this?

Well, it is eerily similar to a very large picture that I once had that hung in my office in Hamilton. I know something happened to it, though I cannot recall what, and so I did not keep it. But it, like this was a capture of the white bark of birch trees and long grass with the slowly turning yellow of the leaves becoming evident. Now these larch trees not birch, but they do have a similar appearance.

I bought the original picture, with money someone had given me as a gift, to remind myself of Camp Selkirk where Wendy and I led the camping ministry and significant property improvements for five years. It was a hectic place in the summer with every day presenting some issues – failed pumps, broken legs, broken doors or windows, upset children, staff who decided to bring an attitude to work…. and so it went. After 14 camps we would be exhausted yet satisfied with a good season.

But in the autumn…. oh yes! I would often be at the camp on a weekend for an event or working towards closing up the camp for the winter and I would simply walk through the trees (125 acres) and listen to the rustle of the leaves in the wind and enjoy the aroma of nature.

When I saw Rob’s picture, all these thoughts came flooding back into my mind.

Being among the trees is a favourite place of mine.
