The Mountains

When I think of the word majestic, I think of the mountains. Some mountains more than others, that’s true, but the mountains near us, well they really are majestic.

In our visit to Rick and Alison, of course, we have to drive through the mountains. The Kicking Horse pass construction needs a mention, and I wish I had taken a picture or two. I did not but wow oh wow, how on earth do you do that? Engineers at their best working through that project! That’s for sure.

On our return, we stopped for a bit in Field BC. It’s a fascinating place but I imagine in the winter could be quite isolated. You come out of the mountains and down into this very wide, very flat valley with a very wide but shallow river bed. I suspect in run-off season it fills up but almost every time we’ve been by it’s been quite a small waterway.

But where you have mountains, you have altitude and that means cooler temperatures. While we were driving through YoHo and Banff National Parks Wendy took a picture of the dash – you can note the temperature! Yup,, while most of North America is melting, it was 4 C degrees.

We stopped in the town of Canmore. This remains one of our favourite places to spend time. There is so much to see and do here, though we only had lunch and visited a few shops we could certainly spend a few days enjoying it.

Of course, a stop in Canmore means a visit to the quilt shop! I do think this shop has more fabric than any other shop we’ve visited.

Lunch was at the Flatbread Company – and we had the most delicious soup! It was a good day for soup. We are starting to enjoy retirement, though it is amazing how every day seems like Thursday!
