Off to the Netherlands

After a less than restful night of trying to sleep on a 747 it was great to finally have an afternoon nap! The only thing about this kind of travel is the physical toll – but then after a good sleep I will feel much better.

I’ve arrived at Belmont – an Army hotel that also helps the poor, providing emergency housing, counselling services, addictions work, employment opportunities etc… It’s quite a setting.

The food has been excellent – a real impressive taste and presentation feat!

We are here to talk about the future of institutional care in a rapidly changing world. It’s amazing to think that the Church, who were strongly involved in caring for people through schools, orphanages, hospitals, senior’s homes, etc are increasingly pushed out in favour of institutions that are profit making endeavors. That’s a broad statement, not always accurate but it does carry a fair opinion.

At any rate the weather is good – 16 to 20 this week with clear skies.

A business and a ministry

Walking thru the front door

A three story hotel and meeting area

Lots of bikes and scooters here

the road – very different markings

A creative meeting area – surrounding stone wall
