Since my parents settled in St. Catharines following retirement we have heard many references to Lock 3 which is only a few minutes drive from their condo.  Today Wendy, Mom and I took a drive over and a ship was coming through Lock 3.  Turns out it had come from the Goderich area where it had picked up a load of salt (there’s a mine there) and had gone to Toronto and was now returning for another load.  ( Discovered all that from a family standing nearby who had been to the salt mine.)
