Making Christmas Dinner Tasty !

Jason, Susan, Wendy and I have opened our gift…a nap or two is underway…and my new WD 1.5 TB external hard drive will get set up later today!  Ahh the joy of Christmas!  Around 4 pm I should be carving up the bird…golden brown with all the trimmings, and the necessary veggies including brussel sprouts.  I love those little green buds.  Did you know in 2002 they were voted Britian’s most hated vegetable.  How could that be?  They are delicious.

Here’s a bit more information: Brussels sprouts are full of nutrients and contain significant amounts of vitamin C. In fact, gram for gram, Brussels sprouts contain nearly fifty percent more vitamin C than an orange. Just four to six Brussels sprouts contain the adult daily requirement for vitamin C.

Like other cruciferous vegetables, Brussels sprouts contain nitrogen compounds called indoles, known for their cancer fighting properties. Brussels sprouts are also a good source of folate, potassium, vitamin K, fibre and beta carotene.
Nutritional information per serving (4 sprouts): 33 kcal, 7 g carbohydrate, 0 g fat, 3 g protein, 3 g fibre
According to Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating, 1 serving of Brussels sprouts equals 4 sprouts” – Leslie Beck, RD
Whether your festivities include Burssels sprouts or not – as we come to the end of Christmas Day we send from our home to yours our wish for a time of blessing and joy.

A final suggestion on how to make this day memorable: after opening the presents, hug all your family members and tell them they are the best gift of all.
