Winter on the prairies is quite different than the ones I have experienced east of here. I’ve spent winters in Newfoundland – the Avalon Peninsula – and in St. John New Brunswick as well as Southern Ontario, and those winters are dull, cloudy and have a not-so-lovely tone of cloud and darkness. I wonder how Americans, and the USA government would react if another country’s leader announced that they were taking part of their territory, or were going to bring economic pressure to bear? I mean we are used to seeing governments do this to countries, like Russia who invaded Crimea and then Ukraine, or to Iran…

Family day

Here in Alberta, we celebrate Family Day—in fact, we were the first province to offer this. Now, several provinces hold this holiday. It was designed to give those of us in the cold winters of Alberta to have a bit of a break between New Years and Easter. And is there something better than family?…
