Off to the Casino

I’m not a gambler. In fact I can’t think of a worse way to give your money to someone else. And I don’t mean the one winner in a million. No, to those who run these gambits. So you ask, why was I at the Casino, or why were you and Wendy at the Casino?

Well as it turns out, that’s where the Celtic Woman concert we had tickets for was being put on for their one stop in Edmonton.

Was I a bit surprised to see the activity of the casino? Absolutely, I was. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people sitting at games tables or machines feeding their money into the abyss.

Lights, plush carpet, music, more lights…and food, cheap food! It was almost a sensory overload experience. We made our way past the gamblers, the multiple food places and found The Venue!

The 5 man band was really excellent and the music quite enjoyable. The seating? A little on the crushed side! And we didn’t go for the midnight buffet with all you can eat hot dogs!

We did have a good time. It was our second time to see them, the first being in Erie PA at a restored theatre from the early 1900’s with remarkable architecture. This “hangar full of lights” was not quite the same experience.

In the hallway outside The Venue they had instruments and mics from the various performers that have been there.

SNL did a skit based on Celtic Woman – if you know the real Celtic Woman music, you’ll want to watch this!

We really had a great time, and while it was a late night, it was a memorable experience.

Here’s a clip from The Celtic Woman…
