Chaos on The Hill

Another brilliant woman steps down from a high-profile position in the Liberal government. What a bombshell this is. A public statement on the morning of the scheduled fiscal report, how can this be seen as anything other than the beginning of the end for this government. I would say Pierre has a big smile on his face this morning.

Mark Carney might want to think again about stepping into the role of finance minister at this point. Chrystia wrote in her letter of resignation that we need to reject costly political acts – and of course, she’s speaking to the brief GST holiday that the PM announced.

Freeland has been a loyal deputy to the PM, so her leaving speaks loudly about what is happening behind the scenes. She is clearly not on side with the actions of the PM.

The ballooning deficit is just one issue, but this GST holiday is a terrible public policy action. And I guess she, on the verge of being fired, decided to take hold of her future.

Let’s see what happens next, but this is not good for the country.
